Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday released a commemorative coin of Rs 75 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations [FAO].

Speaking on the occasion via a web telecast, the Prime Minister also released 17 new biofortified crop varieties and reiterated the government's commitment to procure agricultural crops at the minimum support price [MSP].

The move comes at a time when despite recent talks with the Center, many farmers have refused to carry out their agitation against controversial agricultural laws.

“MSP and government procurement are an important part of the country's food security. It is important that it continues to function with better facilities and in a scientific manner. We are committed to this, ”he said.

He said that the Center is promoting millet and high nutrition crops to remove malnutrition in the country.
Apart from this, Modi also said that efforts are being made to improve the mandi infrastructure so that procurement of MSP continues in a scientific manner.

He said that in the last six years the government has been investing in agricultural produce marketing committees (APMCs) to increase the basic facilities.
