Obama's former chief strategist, David Axelrod, said that Trump spent most of his first term to erase his predecessor's legacy, but Obama considers the election "a personal aberration with Trump."

Axelrod said Democrats played a strategic role in making Obama his first appearance on the campaign trail at this late date.
